Session 176 - Laz Finds a Nice Tomb

8/19/25 Day 43 I had hoped we would get away with taking a rest before we would be confronted by any real threats, but it wasn’t how it worked out. The Beast was bound to find drink eventually and that, combined with his mercenary nature, were bound to lead him astray. I didn’t actually hear his first interaction with Baroness Wachter, but it wasn’t hard to imagine. “Grave robber! What kind of vile animal digs among corpses in the house of his benefactor?!?!” A confused Oloch, “Umm ... what are you asking exactly? Do you have a corkscrew with you?” Regardless, I heard the din begin not long after, but not before hearing the Paladin attempt an explanation – said explanation seemed to be soundly rejected. I wasn’t surprised by The Baroness’ rejection of The Paladin’s words. I was more than dismayed to hear her authoritatively giving instructions in Infernal. I didn’t actually speak this language of the Nine Planes, but I had been in its presence often enough to recognize it an...

Session 175 – Lady Wachter’s ultimatum

Image
8/12/25 Day 43 Again, as Carl was not present for the first part of the interaction with Lady Wachter, the following was written and provided by Abe: Baroness Wachter is gazing down at the body of the vampire spawn whose head Oloch recently pulped with an expression of concern and disgust. One of her guards (Glen, who's also carrying a torch), taking note of Oloch, lets out a small grunt, causing the noblewoman to look up. “Warrior Oloch, is that you?” she says. “What are you doing there?” She steps over the vampire spawn’s body and starts towards you. Her men follow. “Oloch, are you….PILLAGING that crypt?” “Um…no…just kind of…looking around?” “Where are the others? Lead on.” As she moves through the catacombs, tut-tutting at the multiple open crypts, their stone panels removed and set to the side. “Awful,” she said. “Simply…awful.” “My dear Lady Ireena, WHAT have these men involved you in?” the baroness asks rhetorically, an expression of considerable concern...

Session 174 - More crypts

8/5/25 Day 43 For the majority of this session, Carl was attuning to his new staff while the rest of the party fought the vampire spawn and searched the tombs. Two of the spawn fled the Sun sword by retreating back down the hallway.   One instead ran into the chamber, where it was subsequently destroyed by the party.   The group elected to not chase the other two spawn. The group (minus Carl) opened the crypt belonging to the self-proclaimed time traveler. As in the other crypts, they found a skeleton on a slab.   However, they also found a set of wings on a harness that appeared to be wearable.   In one corner of the room, they found an unusual wood and metal scepter.   Searching the skeleton revealed a bag containing 20 silver marbles and a full drinking horn.   Laz took the bag of marbles and Oloch took the drinking horn.   Laz decided to join Carl in the crypt and try to get a short rest in. The next crypt belonged to Isold Yunk.  ...

Session 173 – The Staff

7/22/25 Day 43 After defeating the banshee, we took a few moments to catch our collective breaths.   There was an obscene amount of coin spread across the floor of her tomb.   But as there is no place to spend money, it has little actual value.   I did grab a handful of coins in case I needed something to animate later. The next crypt was labeled as Wolfram’s.   Upon opening, we saw a very familiar body lying on the slab.   Wolfram.   Once Laz advised he didn’t see any traps, Wolfram went in and touched “his” body.   It melted away at his touch, leaving nothing behind.   Those of us outside the crypt saw that his name vanished as well. Mind games.   Barovian mind games.   We saw similar things before.   Laz finding a book on his life story when we first got here, and again at Castle Argynvostholt when we found a bust of me. We checked a wide stairway descending to the East.   Midway down the stairs, we could se...
