Session 125 – Not every problem is a nail.

4/16/24 Day 38 Kasimir and I explained our theory to the group.   I then cast Dispel Magic on the remains of one of the flameskulls.   The intricate runes and symbols that had been engraved into the bone dissolved, then the skull pieces themselves collapsed into dust.   As it did, I felt a sense of…relief or perhaps gratitude, from what had to have been an unholy prison for that wizard.   Or it may have just been my imagination. Kasimir said, “Well, that seems to have worked.”   He then cast Dispel Magic on the other skull and had the same result. Dasco suggested that we go searching for the first skull he had brought down so we could do the same to it. This suggestion was met with a fair amount of pushback.   After all, it had probably already been about an hour since it was brought down.   Dasco argued that maybe it was an hour, maybe not.   If we look for it now, there’s a chance we can destroy it permanently.   If we wait ...

Session 124 – Autopsy

4/9/24 Day 38 My trust in my companions was not misplaced.   Dasco destroyed two more with his Bloodspear.   Another shield spell protected me from one of the bastards, then Ireena finished off the one Kazimir and Laz had been working on.   I used shocking grasp on the last one, which allowed me to move away.   As soon as I did, Oloch destroyed it. We took a few minutes to calm down and make sure there were no more threats. When we were all breathing a little more normally, I explained what the pitcher did and suggested that Oloch would be a worthy bearer of it.   He smiled like a kid discovering his presents during Midwinter celebrations and put it in his pack. Out the door to the east, the floor fell away so that direction wasn’t really an option.   We could potentially sit tight here, but it was too early to camp for the night, and we really had no way to heat this room.   Our best bet for an overnight stay would seem to be where the...

Session 123 – Tomato, Tomahto.

4/2/24 Day 38 As entered the chamber, I could see that Kasimir cast counterspell at something.   The flameskull that had been behind the table suddenly flew past Ireena, out a door to the East. It turned and started to cast something else, which I counterspelled. It turned to flee, but not before Ireena landed a hit on it. We looked out the door through which it had fled.   After a few feet, the floor was collapsed, so following was not an option.   Just on the edge of our light, we could see a giant statue rising from the floor below.   I’d estimate it must have been 40 feet tall.   It seemed to be of a robed and hooded figure, its hands outstretched as if casting a spell.   The flameskull was flying about, near the statue’s head.   Oloch stepped out onto the remains of the flooring and managed to hit the skull with an arrow. I suggested to Oloch that he comes back in the room, but he declined, saying.   “I wanna get another shot at...

Session 122 – Flameskulls

3/26/24 Day 38 It should have been easy. We had an area we could camp in.   We knew what was past the doors to the east, we just had to check what was on the other side of the doors to the north, then we could camp for the night.   Oloch and Wolfram stood at the heavy set of amber double doors.   The rest of us a few feet back, among the makeshift beds. They pushed the doors open, and Oloch almost immediately said, “Nope,” and quickly pulled them shut again. He turned his head and said, “Skulls.   Floating Skulls.   Flying, floating skulls.   On fire. 3 of them.” Before we could work out what he was trying to tell us, the doors opened again, apparently by themselves.  I got a glimpse of, well, a floating flaming skull. Just like he said. I also saw a small ball of flame, about the size of a marble shoot out of its mouth and into the room. I heard someone yell, “Fireball!” and I dropped down behind one of the makeshift beds.  ...
